About Us
In 1982, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) established the Chinese Language Center (CLC), offering a complete Chinese language training program to promote international cultural exchange. Each year, more than 1,000 foreign students from over 50 different countries come to study Mandarin Chinese at the CLC. The students are of all ages, ranging from early teens to retired seniors.

1. CLC suggests students make their own accommodation arrangement. Students are advised to arrive in Tainan two weeks before the commencement of the quarter for that.

2. Students can choose on- or off-campus dormitory, though the quotas of both are extremely limited. Our staff makes every effort to help with application, but CLC does not guarantee that students will be placed as requested.

icon Scholarship

In order to enhance the opportunities for students to come to Taiwan to learn Chinese and experience Taiwanese culture, Taiwan provides servel scholarships. Applicants need to meet the relevant application qualifications, or submit the application to ROC Consulate in your country before departure to Taiwan.

icon Living Resources

New Taiwan Dollars, abbreviated as TWD, is the currency unit in Taiwan.

Approximate exchange rate: 1 USD≒30 TWD. The TWD notes in circulation are TWD2,000, TWD1,000, TWD500, and TWD100. TWD coins in circulation are TWD50, TWD10, TWD5, and TWD1. Living costs for one month in Tainan may range from TWD8,400~16,000 (US$280~533; for reference only) Feel free to bring credit cards, and a limited amount of cash (Traveler’s cheques are not recommended because most banks and stores do not take them). You can exchange a limited selection of foreign currencies at the post office at Kuang-Fu Campus.

There are four international airports in Taiwan: Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) near Taipei, Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) in Kaohsiung, Taichung International Airport (TXG) in Taichung, and Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA) in Taipei. Tainan is 305 kms or 189 miles south of Taipei, 49 kms or 30 miles north of Kaohsiung, and 154 kms or 95 miles south of Taichung. CLC recommends that you use Taoyuan International Airport or Kaohsiung Airport to go to Tainan.
