Regular Chinese Classes

1. Seasonal Regular Classes

Small group and individual (one-on-one) classes are offered to match student preferences – 17 years of age or older

To accommodate different language learning styles, small group (6-12 people, in summer timme, may go up to 13) and individual (one-on-one) classes are offered. The curriculum is designed for a two-year period, with the goal of developing listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation skills.

Classes include 10 hours of comprehensive Chinese language lessons and 5 hours of electives, for a total of 15 hours per week. Language classes last 2 hours per day. Electives include language skill practice and cultural curriculum. Each elective class lasts one/two hour(s) every week.

I. Small group classes contain 6 to 12 students (in summer timme, may go up to 13). Placement test result determines which entry level course is appropriate for each student (Level A ~ Level I).

II. Individual classes are designed according to the different needs and abilities of individual students. Teachers adjust teaching methods and materials to accommodate each student's learning needs.

III. Elective classes are offered in language subjects,

(1) Cultural Classes: Chinese Painting, Calligraphy, Taichi, etc.

(2) Language Classes: Pronunciation, Reading & Writing, Conversation, Taiwanese Language, etc.

2.  Summer Intensive Sessions

In Summer Intensive Sessions, students take 4 hours of instruction a day and 20 hours per week. In order to enable our students to progress in a short term and increase opportunities for using Chinese language and experiencing Chinese culture firsthand, each week 10 hours are devoted to the progression through the textbooks. The second 10 hours aims to promote students’ oral expression ability by engaging them in multi-topic dialogues and discussion activities. At the same time, students are free to choose cultural classes such as Chinese painting, calligraphy, and Taichi each week. Such a variety of language and culture courses enables students to apply the language they have learned in daily Chinese conversations and use the language beyond the classroom settings.

I. Target Students: 17 years of age or older.

II. Curriculum (1-2 months):

     ・ 20 hours of classes per week (4 hours/day, M-F)

・ Focus on skills to help consolidate existing knowledge

・ Learn in small group classes (6-12 people)

・ Participation in contests, festivals, and other activities
